Day Trading and Swing Trading Techniques

If I sell a stock, and then short it the same day, is it still a day trade?

Say I sell a stock I’ve been holding for 2 weeks, and later in the same day I decide to just short sell it (will cover on a later date). Is this considered a day trade?

    yes

No. A day trade is when you open and close a position on the same day. In your example:

You opened a position (buy) and closed it (sold) two weeks later. Not a day trade.

You opened a second position (sell short) and close it (buy to cover) at a future date. Not a day trade.

The fact that you opened the second position the same day you closed the first position does not matter. Each position is considered on it’s own.

no, day trade means you open and close your position in the same day.
